DN is performed with acupuncture needles. It is used to improve range of motion, provide pain relief, decrease muscle tension, and decrease nervous system tone.

Patients and clients usually report a decrease in pain and tension immediately after. With that being said, some patients may have some residual muscle soreness anywhere from 24-48 hours after a session. Needles are typically so thin that they do not feel the same as a typical injection at the doctors office. They are more similar to acupuncture needles

Manual therapy is hands-on techniques used to decreased pain, improve range of motion, improve muscle length and flexibility, either decreased or increase muscle tone and activation. Depending on diagnosis, goals, prior experiences, and personal preference, Nick may different manual techniques. Some of these include soft tissue release, deep tissue and sports massage, dry needling, joint mobilization and manipulation, passive range of motion, active release, cupping, and many others.

All manual therapy is best followed up with exercise, stretching, or sound resistance training to have results “stick” between sessions. Nick may provide soft tissue release, active mobilizations, stretching, or well programmed resistance training to keep you feeling your best between sessions.

It depends on the client. Scheduling, finances, diagnosis, and injury timelines are all part of this decision. Some people find that once per week works very well for them when supplemented with a structured fitness routine.

Manual therapy is actually best utilized when combined with exercise and resistance training! Nick is happy to meet you in your home, community gym or wherever is convenient for you. A typical session structure may look like manual therapy, followed by active mobility/dynamic stretching, followed by resistance/strength training.
